Callum, Damian and Sophie – Apprentice Intake 2019

On Friday 8th November we held our annual apprentice evening, here at our offices in Penryn, to celebrate our apprentice team – from our newest recruits to those graduating from the programme.

The evening, hosted by our training director, Paul, kicked off with a formal welcome and induction of the new apprentices to join the team. Callum and Damian, who both will be undertaking a Gas Installation, Service and Maintenance apprenticeship and Sophie, who will be undertaking an electrical engineering apprenticeship.

The new apprentices were joined by their families for the evening, which included guest speakers from Cornwall College, our training partner, Gareth Jones from Coastline Housing, one of our largest customers as well as 2nd and 3rd year Blue Flame apprentices who know exactly what it is like to undertake the programme! To formally welcome the new recruits, they were presented with a selection of tools kindly donated by City Plumbing Redruth, Edmundson Electrical Redruth and Blue Flame.

As well as celebrating our new apprentices, the evening also recognised the efforts of our current team with the Blue Flame Apprentice Awards 2019! The awards, which included categories such as ‘Apprentice of the Year’ and ‘Customer Service Champion’ were voted for by all staff at Blue Flame. A big well done to everyone who won an award.

The evening concluded with a presentation for those apprentices who have recently qualified and promoted to junior engineers.

Matthew Opie, who qualified earlier in the year and now works as a servicing engineer within the service and maintenance department. Ryan Astbury, who will also join the service and maintenance team and Eron Thornhill who will join the installation team as an installer.

Paul Said “Congratulations to you all. You’ve all dedicated yourselves to your apprenticeships over the last 3 years. You’ve worked hard on your portfolios and practical assessments and used your time to gain valuable experience with the other engineers. We hope you will continue to learn and widen your knowledge of the industry in your relevant departments.”

Our apprenticeship programme began in 1992 and during the years has trained in excess of 60 apprentices, many of whom still work for the company today. Our apprentices and the programme are an integral part of our business.

Well done to all the award winners and graduating apprentices and a big welcome to team flame to those just joining!
